Walked along the edge, you
Balanced toe to heel in glass and diamond slippers.
Stayed safely by the path, I
Kept a constant stride in well-worn leather loafers.
Paused to admire the rose, I
Pinned one to your dress.
But heavens stars were in your eyes,
And I was second-best.
Traipsed along the edge, you
Peered into the sea reflecting diamonds sparkling bright.
Stayed safely by the path, I
Glanced toward the moon - it nothing but the light.
Paused to feel the breeze, I
Reached out for your hand.
But floating through the starry night,
Your feet had left the ground.
Faltered along the edge, you
Fell into a cloudy bed ephemeral with lust.
Stayed safely by the path, I
Stared down at my plain brown shoes beneath a film of dust.

Great contrasts and story told within this poem, I could definitely picture the words written and see the tale unfold. Wonderful work and thank you for entering!
