The Eleventh Hour

Ding ding
Hear the bells sing
Such a joyous tune
Oh, deary, if only you knew
Your time was coming soon.

The hearse is parked outside your door
And lightning strikes the sky
Death  creeps across your floor
Time to say bye-bye.

Hear the crow sing
Oh, hear the crow sing
He sits upon his perch
He sings his song so tragically
As fire burns his birch.

Dong, dong
The hour strikes
Better hurry and run
It's the eleventh hour of your life
And now your time is done.

Deliciously morbid. Like Poe on ecstacy.

  • Excellent rhyming and both a dark and playful poem that was a pleasure to read. And congratulations, you are officially my 5000th comment.

  • ...Wow. The playfulness of this piece, coupled by the promise of death.... LOVE IT!!!!! The playful rhyming is what I love the most. And I just love how... Well. "Death creeps across your floor; Time to say bye-bye." It's like the Grim Reaper whipping out a hand puppet that offers you a lollipop. Absurd, disturbing, and hilarious! Wow. This is definitely one of my favorite poems.

  • I love the line:

    'Death creeps across your floor'

I is the most stricking line in the poem but I love the change of tone your poem started so jolly but then the tone of death mimics and soacks up that last bit of joy.

    Brillant creation.
