You think the sun will rise each morning
But never see it as a warning
To get a head start of the mourning
For when it will not rise.
You don't have to go see, you're sure
You've seen the sunrise times before
Go on and sleep, go on, ignore
No need to blink your eyes.
You think the day will end by night
Blow out the candle, turn off the light
Keep watching that show, let the moon do the fight
And miss its great demise.
One two four, and you're laying in bed
Hidden in the brightness carved over your head
The sun is dying and the moon is dead
You forget to say your goodbyes.
I hadn't time to remind you that this game you've played
Loved and lost and found and betrayed
Can no longer make me guilty and afraid
I don't care for the disguise.
And it's not that I'm mad, it's just that I'm done
I enjoyed the simple time when I had my run
Appreciate the complex and electrocute the sun
It wouldn't be a surprise.
It's about time that you let the weather rain
Stop pulling it away with your lock and chain
If you really believe that the dead can't complain
Start listening to their sighs.
Because you have a life to live, no matter what it be
I could never tell you and you could never tell me
It's only the dead who can throw you the key
The combination is in their cries.
I burned you in that early fire
That ember of my own desire
Just because you make excuses doesn't mean you're not a liar
Your dust can just improvise.
I don't believe you care for the rose in your hand
I don't believe you're really as tall as you stand
I don't believe that you know everything in the land
I don't believe in your reprise.
I'm not going to stay with my mop and broom
Cleaning up your words when there isn't any room
You can't go on expecting for me to assume
That the sun will rise.
Author notes
This was more spontaneous than poetic but it is symbolic...
