Passing cloud your shadow falls
And paints my spirit grey
Stretching ‘cross these sun kissed fields
To chase my smiles away
Where did you come from
On such a beautiful morning?
How did you find me
Without so much as a warning?
Oh pass me by
‘Cause it’s so hard to see
The wonder of the world when you’re hanging over me
Don’t want to wait ‘til tomorrow
To find that my sorrow’s here to stay
Oh tell me why
Must you spread your stain
And poison my horizons with the threat of pouring rain
I can’t afford another day
Waiting for this cloud to go away
So pass me by
So pass me by
Passing cloud your raindrops fall
Upon my wearied head
Sending streams of wistful gloom
Like tears from heaven shed
Where did you come from
On such a beautiful morning?
How did you find me
Without so much as a warning?
Oh pass me by
‘Cause it’s so hard to shine
With summer’s April showers sending shivers down my spine
And I can’t keep running for shelter
Every time I’m dealt a trembling hand
Oh tell me why
Must you dampen this spark,
Take away my fire and leave me standing in the dark
I can’t wait around forever
Hoping this bleak weather’s gonna change
So pass me by
So pass me by
[musical interlude]
Passing cloud you drift away
I thought you’d never leave
Golden sunlight fills my eyes
I can finally breathe
Now that the rain’s gone
It’s such a beautiful morning
Now it’s behind me
It’s such a beautiful day
Not a cloud in the sky
No clouds in the sky
No clouds in the sky
No clouds in the sky
Author notes
This is the fifth song from the 'Alive Again' album I'm working on. If nothing else I'll have the vocals uploaded within a week, and I'll probably be able to put together a basic guitar backing track for it. Musically, it's all very early days so please reserve judgement for now - I'm just not accomplished enough on the guitar at this point to record the song in it's final form. I'll inform anybody who's interested when I've added these updates.
To give you an idea in the meantime: it's a folksy kind of number, in fact I'm trying my damndest to make the first two lines sound like something other than the opener of Bob Dylan' 'Blowin' in the Wind'. It's a softer song though.
Please check out the album's list for more info and other (lyrically) completed songs.

One day, you are gonna make it big and leave all of us behind.

This is really nice actually. I loved the way your
words flowed and I especially liked this verse:
Oh tell me why
Must you spread your stain
And poison my horizons with the threat of pouring rain
I can’t afford another day
Waiting for this cloud to go away
A lovely read...keep penning
