Feed me tv
Just a little more....
Eyes glued in hypnotic state
Hollowed out to the core
Cultivate my palate
Sugars and grease are best to devour
Synthetic flavors and chemicals
'Comfort' food: eating is the happiest hour
Drench out all my misery
With wine, vodka, tequilas, beer
By this time tomorrow
I'll have hidden all my fear
Primp me up and polish me down
Don't I look pretty?
I've got my pasted-on smile
To pretend I don't feel shitty
Anxious? Nervous? Tired?
Pop a pill!
Drugs running through your veins
Help you forget to feel
Need an escape from your own life?
Movies are the cheapest way
Anything is worth a try
To forget we had an awful day
Sell me lots of junk
Shiny toys that I don't need
When I run out of money
Blame it on corporate greed!
Fill the void
Get rid of this hole
A quick, numbing, band aid fix
SURE, that'll heal my soul!
Don't talk
or ask questions
Silly person!
Why bother making real connections?
I've got all these things
To bide and pass the time
After all, I'm an American
and this is my prime!

"Sell me lots of unk/Shiny toys I don't need/When I run out of money/Blame it on corporate greed!" That stanza really captures something I've been thinking about a lot, why a lot of Americans feel the need to buy a lot of worthless yet expensive crap. I think it's because we feel a need to show off our wealth, to let others know where we stand socially.
But who knows? -
WOW
wow i like this and it is the truth.. we make excuses and hide it all behind stuff. Nice work! -
There are a lot of good thoughts here, but I have to say it's not one of my favorite writes from you. Most of the time, the lines don't seem to flow together. I do love the last two lines, though. I also like the stanza:
"Sell me lots of junk
Shiny toys that I don't need
When I run out of money
Blame it on corporate greed!"
That's one of the better-flowing stanzas and I love the underlying message of people never taking responsibility for their own choices.
