Beverage of Choice

When I’m ill and feeling down,
a cup of tea will bring me ‘round.
Never iced.  I like it hot,
with steam escaping from the pot,
and cream and sugar in the cup;
pancakes swimming in syrup,
oatmeal,  eggs and sausage too,
all cheer me up when I feel blue.

Though I’m American you see,
your bitter coffee’s not for me.

haha, Love it. I'm a big coffee drinker. But i got a likeing for hot Green Tea, on my paid vacation to the orient. hehe
And being a Texan i drink a lot of iced tea too.
But the coffee and tea with no sugar or anything else.
Very clever poem. A great breakfast. mmmmmmm

Well done, Sir Jim. Even though it's hot and humid here, I read this and have this urge to go fix a cup of tea. (I favor Earl Grey without the cream and sugar.)
I do enjoy iced tea, but your hot tea sounds great with the breakfast you describe. Too bad breakfast is about six hours away, and there's too much to do immediately after to savor the repast you describe!
My favorite couplet in this requires rhyming "in the cup" with "in syrup". Like the moments described in the poem, that's a simple pleasure!

  • Outstanding

This is a humorous poem that is entertaining to read. Sounds like an excellent breakfast - I tried American pancakes when I visited Florida and they were delicious.

      Thanks for stopping by.

They've been doing studies which show that eating eggs for breakfast helps you lose weight too.

      I've been drinking ...

tea with cream and sugar or sweet and low for over 55 years. It would be a bit late to change now.

      Thanks for stopping by.
