Les Princess
I
They dwell together
on the same stretch of pavement
He and she……. by virtue of fate…
live side by side….in this strip of pavement
along with their other neighbors.
It’s a busy pavement…with all kind of creatures,
With same kind of occupation…
to ask for the aid (usually a nickel is quite handy)
from pedestrians.
II
He is..though..no beggar
All day he sits on his throne
as the passers by pay (and rarely they do so))
A token (or tax) of their respect to the king.
She used to work as a (ladies’) maid…till the day
when the mistress of the house
discovered that her gold ring was lost
(…it was given to her
by her great grand mother).
They thought…it must be the maid.
They searched her body (she still shivers with the shame
when she remembers the event),
Searched her little room…to find nothing more
than a comb, a bag full of rag…and a small old mirror.
Ring was lost….and along with it she lost her job.
Now a days she also begs…
in this ever so stretching pavement.
III
He decorates himself ,
with glittering paper crown
and a twisted stick
as his royal scepter.
Hey!
He shouts……
“look you insolent creep….
Here is your prince speaking…..”
Yes Sire!...the neighbor replies ( a fellow beggar!)
‘We are your servants…
but a humble thought appeared to me.
As I looked to thee
If you are the king
or crown prince of this pavement land
where is your beloved queen…
where is your princess’?
He seemingly confused…asks him back..
“Yes………
Where is my beloved princess?”
As mischievous fun
possesses the beggar…he points his finger towards her….
“Here you go sire!
O noble king….
Look no further…..
Here is your queen.
Here is your crown princess!”
He turns his gaze to her
with a lousy smile…..
and murmurs in a deep voice……..
Yes..she is my princess…
And shouts…
“you are my princess!”
The beggar bursts into laughter..
as other neighbors join the fun…
quite a prince and quite a princess…
Heavenly couple of pavement land.
She turns red with fury…
and cries back to him
You imbecile…jerk…
so many fine men die each day
Why can’t you die...
He looks at her with same sheepish smile
He is beyond the abuses,
Way beyond the curse.
IV
Yet all day…she keeps glancing at him
As he plays with his…clustered dirty hair….
As he sails in his aluminum boat…
As he roars and orders the insolent passer by.
At night…when
tall buildings. .opposite the sleeping pavement
smolder like ancient zombies…..
And he is bundled and crouched ,,like a pile of rags
She quietly puts her dirty and withered, spare clothes
to cover the helpless king.
An unconscious smile,
flickers on her lips
as she thinks to herself….
“Giving warmth to an insane
insanity in itself………
Yet…… he called me his princess.”

Nice Poem
Your poem is nice. I especially like the ending. At first I thought he was a real prince. In the future I would be careful on how many "..." you use so it won't become an overkill. -
This is a great write. Very well crafted and worded just right for the reader's imagination to take over. Great job! Thanks for taking part in my special contest for my wonderfully special family!
