I would like to wrap you in my arms
feel your lips at my breast
as you drink deeply of life
and love.
I would like to absorb your essence
as you suckle greedily.
To draw your face on my heart
as I memorize its light and shadows.
I would like to trace your toes.
Count your fingers.
Stroke with awe along your cheek
as I have done a thousand times with your twin.
I would like to name you
to give voice to my sorrow.
To acknowledge that, for however brief a time
you sheltered within my womb.
I would like it
if someone else would mourn your loss.

This is a poignant penning, overflowing with sorrow. Indeed, how often is a miscarriage even mourned, except by the mother & perhaps, the father? Too many treat it as though it was the loss of a pet; "you'll have another one", as if such love could ever be replicated or replaced. Good luck in Cat's contest.
