The Other Side Of The Rainbow

I'll never forget you
You, in your short pants and long hair
Swinging on that wretched piece of wood we dangled from the maple
It's like a photograph in sepia

Every time it rained
We'd be out there, shoving and shouting
And after, when leaves were hung with tears
We'd swing

....the mist forming halos over our heads

You believed that if you swung hard enough
You could see the other side of the rainbow
I just laughed and pushed you higher
Silver beads pressed to my lips

When I heard you gasp, my heart froze

But it's funny
The only thing I remember about that moment
Was an angel in midair
Silhouetted by the sinking sun

Now I sit here
Disoriented, unknowing
My legs awkward and uneasy
My hands burning from the rope
It seems I forgot how to fly

But I still know you're there
Waiting for me to gather the courage
You're waiting for me to see you

...on the other side of the rainbow

  • This is just so utterly gorgeous!
Every image was just a bright light to my secluded eyes and stunned me with every syllable.
I enjoyed every single bit of this.

  • Very Beautiful

This poem is so very beautiful and so heart-wrenchingly sad. I read it slowly, thoroughly enjoying every line you have written. I read it holding my breath as I waited to find out what happened. The ending was so sad and yet so beautiful. Thankyou so much for sharing this with me. I wish you All Good Luck in the contest. With love&my very best wishes from Rose xxx for you x
