A Bad Day's Mess

If I had only known
what the day would bring,
I wouldn't have gotten up
with a happy song to sing.

From the minute I woke up
and shut the bathroom door,
the toilet then overflowed
all over my nice, clean floor.

I sopped up the mess at hand
and decided to get dressed,
while I was changing clothes
I noticed I had a guest.

A mouse ran across the floor
and it startled me at first,
it turned out to be a day
where I was feeling cursed.

My pants were a bit too big
but I wore them anyway,
they caused me to trip
and on the floor I lay.

I didn't feel like getting up
after how my day was going,
I had to get back up again
as I heard the toilet flowing.

Back into the bathroom
I hurried and I slipped,
I fell onto the ground again
all wet the water dripped.

I got up but fell again
and then I reached for more,
I used the toilet plunger
and then I mopped the floor.

After I changed my clothes
the kids wanted to eat,
It was only lunchtime
and I was now feeling beat.

The day continued to go on
and you can only guess,
I struggled even more
with every sudden mess.

  • Humorous and Witty

Love the first stanza! It sets up the rest of the poem nicely. Some times I wish I could just go back to sleep and start my day again.
