The shadow spread for all to see
Across a broken plain.
Like blood is seeped through every pore
And infiltrated pain.
Above the sky was torn apart
By lack and likely foe.
But few of them would fail to see
The terror from below.
With bodies strewn from here to there
As far as the eye can see,
It's hard to guess and harder to know
Who the next victim will be.
When battle sounds it's deadly call,
It's few who are prepared,
But after battle has washed away
It's those who are not spared.
Across a broken plain.
Like blood is seeped through every pore
And infiltrated pain.
Above the sky was torn apart
By lack and likely foe.
But few of them would fail to see
The terror from below.
With bodies strewn from here to there
As far as the eye can see,
It's hard to guess and harder to know
Who the next victim will be.
When battle sounds it's deadly call,
It's few who are prepared,
But after battle has washed away
It's those who are not spared.

Excellent!
A sad but true comment on the reality of life.

Sad
Soldiers often say, that one of the main things about war, is the chaos. Military historians explain that this unit was kept in reserve, that battalion was thrown against the enemy's right; and so on. But in the heat of it, you often enough don't know whether the enemy is in front, behind, or some sniper in a high building. You have introduced an element of this. All so sad.
PS The 'its' in l.13 does notwant an apostrophe.

EXCELLENTLY magnific...
Outstanding singing... "Atrocities" takes one on a tour through the city of human's mind through the road of indifference of a society of our days. Interesting composition... A poem to be studied.
Much gratitude to the author of "Atrocities" for sharing her works, and for adding value to Poetry.
In respect and admiration,
Andre Emmanuel Bendavi ben-YEHU

Thank you. Yours has been the first kind comment I have gotten in ages. Seems I come back from a long pause to find nothing but the reasons I left in the first place. Thank you so much for showing me that there are still people left on AP who understand that poetry is not meant to please the reader, but is a window into the soul of the writer and should be encouraged and not put down!

Nicely done. I liked how you took this very abstract picture. Your rhyme was very good, none of it seeming forced at all. I liked your images in this piece as well. Nicely done. Great job and good luck in the contest.
