Thief

Inside the fortress walls,
Sits quietly a Garden:
Tender leaf and bud.

Beneath the black of night,
Treads gently the Tender:
Garden spade in glove.

Outside the armored gates,
Stands warily the Watchman:
Night stick and shrug.

Below the search light beam,
Darts quickly the Thief,
Arrow, bow in Quiver.

There Thief! Whispers the Tender.
Stop Thief! Cries the Watchman.

In view of the morning sun,
Sits nary Rose nor petal,
Garden snail nor Foxglove.
