The stage stands silent;
waiting for the nights performance,
the audience sits;
anticipating the show.
His footsteps echo through the darkness
as he makes his way across the floor;
the curtains raise, the light grows brighter.
He looks out across the room;
and see's her there,
and softly begins to sing;
"can you hear me calling to you my love,
from across the oceans wide,
Im missing you tonight,
This warzone chills my blood
the bombs have made me deaf,
my eyes are blind from the dying
and my soul is lost"
Somewhere off in the distance the backup singers begin to moan,
the man holds his head and cries out lament
stairing into her eyes from across that darkened room.
"Can you hear me calling to you my love,
from across the oceans wide,
Im missing you tonight,
This warzones chilled my blood
the bombs have made me deaf,
my eyes are blind from the dying
and my soul is lost"
Someone begins to play the saxophone,
soft and low driving home the emotion,
the drums take up a soft and sweeping beat.
as the music reaches its crest,
the man moves closer to the audience as if to bring them inside,
as he whispers the final words;
"Can you hear me calling to you my love,
from across the oceans wide,
Im missing you tonight,
This warzones chilled my blood,
the bombs have made me deaf,
my eyes are blind from the dying,
and my souls coming home tonight"
The lights dim, the music slowly fades away,
The man disappears into the darkness as silent as when he came.
..............
The girl wakens from the dream with tears in her eyes,
She knows to well
Some heroes never come home.
