Daddy's Boy

Daddy takes him for a ride,
He's only four years old.

That little boy loves riding.

His daddy's a big shot.
Won first place,

In the big rodeo last summer.

He'll teach him a thing or two,
As he gets older, he promised.

How to swing that old rope just right.

There are pictures on the wall.
Snapshots of daddy,

Riding the biggest bronco in Pennsylvania.

The awards litter the halls,
Pictures of million dollar smiles.

And baby's first lasso.

Today's pictures are gray and faded.
Where once were smiles...

Now is home to deep lines and dips.

The lungs that once yelled YEHAW!
From the top of the world,

Are pumped with different air this time.

And the little boy,
He's only eight years old.

Holding his daddy's hand.

Dad says "I'm sorry boy, I'll never get the chance...
To teach you to ride and rope..."

The machines scream the noise of silence.

Theres a missing picture on the wall,
That now sits in a grassy field,

Next to a stone that says "Ol' Buck"

And momma's boy is outside again,
Barely nine years old,

Tackling the foal to the ground.

Roping it's legs and tying him down.
Sweat on his forehead and cuts on his arms.

He stands like a man,
The boy turns to his momma.

Daddy's legacy burns bright in his eyes.

Author notes

For a contest. There was a good picture on the top of the contest page (A cowboy and his son) and it gave me great motivation. Feedback please
