And I wish to ask him -

Do you feel the winds
as they whip through the sky?
Does the sunlight excite in you
some feeling of joy and wealth?
The cool spring rain,
falling as if from Heaven itself -
do you revel in the pure exhilaration?

Standing tall among your brothers,
do you realize your own majesty?
Do you remain humble, standing straight
while your sisters dance and sway?
Are you filled with pride
as your branches slick the water away,
providing them shelter during the storm?

Do you feel a sense of responsibility
for those that call you home?
Are you woken by the sounds of
    hungry mouths and happy chittering?
Are you thankful for the creatures
    nesting amongst your branches, littering
the ground with the seeds of your young?

Can you feel my thanks
as I kiss your leaves in praise?
Do these eyes betray my wonderment
while I look silently up from the ground?
I only wonder if you feel my warmth
as I wrap my arms around
your strong base, my cheek against yours.

Author notes

It's not finished. I need to add a few stanzas in there somewhere. Is it too... out there? It only rhymes in the emphysized places, I guess you figured that out. I feel like I sound silly though. Thoughts?

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!
