When we should happen to behold
Grain elevators on the rise
Above wheat fields of waving gold
We witness in wide-open skies
Those sentinels that stand so tall
And store the staff that’s hale and whole
I hope they help us to recall
Our dear departed father’s soul
That we’ll remember how he stood
Like structures that are straight and strong
He sheltered us like fathers should
And shouldered all our loads so long
He gathered good grains every day
To keep his wife and family fed
He kept the killing frost at bay
And brought us warm support instead
And when we see those weathered forms
That symbolize such sturdy strength
That bravely beat back stirring storms
And wicked winds that lash at length
That stand as steady as they get
And play a most important part
I pray that we will not forget
Our faithful father’s helpful heart
For like those strongholds of the field
That help protect the pools of wheat
That shield the good and golden yield
From bitter cold and crippling heat
Those grassland castles in the dawn
That safely keep the wholesome seed
Our steadfast father Clement John
He was a good strong man indeed
