After Fears Symphony

Faceless demon stalks even in daylight
Sharp fingernails climb down a shuddering spine
Icy chills join in now
This demon that is fear has started his concert
A racing heart keeps the beat
Palms sweat, tears run
Only he can end this concert
Cease the horrid songs that are sobs
Spilling from trembling lips is a prayer too soft to hear
"Lord please bring him home to me
Everything is colder, darker more uncertain
Six years ago he came like an angel remember?
Out of the confines of hell we flew...
There is no safe place for him in that world
...The world of sand, uniforms and gunfire
This mask of bravery is melting,
Nothing more than a child's popcicle in the July sun
It will be over soon, this month has felt like twenty years
These tears are childish but Lord how he's needed here"
Armed with his T-shirt and echos of his voice
Hope pryed away the fingernails and the icy chills have died
Steady now a heart locks his laughter into place
Sweaty palms desert dry
Finally there are no more tears left to cry
One day the sun will again fill my sky
This war, all the time apart
It will all be just a nightmare
Life will be right again
My best friend, my soldier
Will one day be safe at last
