Just Kill Me Now

It's a dark night.
I taste your stare,
And I sense your fear
As you hide in doubt.

It's a cold night.
I feel your tongue,
Making me feel young.
Still, you're far away.

It's a grand night.
I hear your eyes
That speak of the lies
You tried to keep hid.

It's a new night.
I see your heart,
Which pounds like a tart
As the men please her.

It's a charmed night.
I smell you there,
"No, I am not fair",
You whimper in shame.

I float along,
Ready to kill.
You are very still
Behind your fat tree.

Raising my scythe,
Laughing out loud.
Yet I had once vowed
Not to kill again.

Your soul stretches
It's spirit joints
And curses and points
Straight through my dead frame.

I shoo you gone.
I feel rotten,
Had I forgotten
Promises were kept?

"It's just your job,
Big Sir Reaper".
But pain goes deeper
Than what you can see.

I want to die.
I don't see how
I could drop off now
That I'm immortal.

Just one more day,
Just one more way
To damage a corpse
For doing his job.

  • this totally captures my fancy. having read Terry Pratchett's version of Death in the Discworld books (highly recommended, by the way), i have a certain weakness for him, and i think you've got the world-weariness down just right. not to mention some splendid imagery.

Terry Pratchett captures some interesting moments, and with such humour. I loves him.
This Grim Reaper is less funny that Terry's however.
      Thank you for your comment!

  • Wow, great rhythm and pace in this piece. The ending could be adjusted but otherwise I really enjoyed this.
    Finalists list to be sure.
