dark to light

Black,
the only color visible to the eyes of my soul…
In mind and body,
why must everything be so cold?

A darkened past has tainted me for all time…
It haunts and calls out to me.
Unable to escape this deep dark hole,
I must call it mine…
I must call it home.

Like a fairy tale princess,
I wait for my *sweet prince…
To pull me out of darkness,
Though I know I wait in vain.

Jaded and stubborn,
I won’t let him in…
White happiness, turns to black dismay,
for I am cursed with a deadly sin.

In black solitude,
I have accepted this as my fate…
It is what I know,
Therefore it must be what I want.
Placed with the lowest of low.

Leave me here to rot I say,
Don’t want to expose the ugly in me…
I’d just turn you bad one day,
For I am no good, can you not see?

Hopes and dreams have died long since.
But where is my *sweet prince?
I am no longer convinced…
As liquid crimson drips from my clenched fists.

Then there was “the one”,
he showed up through a light filled box…
A light so bright it may replace the sun.
Splashes of colors soared through my mind,
as we spoke of the little things in life.

Twas not a *sweet prince I’ve been waiting for,
But a knight in bright shining armor…
For it is he who is strong enough,
It is he who gives me strength, to pull myself out of the dark.

Hand in hand,
we share eternal light…
half a lifetime of struggles was worth the fight…
