The Difference

I thought this was going to be
a night to remember,
and now it's the night
I'll never forget.
The difference between this
is subtle and fragile
but it means just the same:
I love you so much more
than you dare love me.
The difference is in the way
your eyes hesitate,
how your words seem rehearsed,
how you're gone in the morning,
(without an explaination)
and back the next night.

You were leaving me again,
the sun's distant cold rays shining
through your hair.
I felt this urge,
I needed you to stay just this once.
I was on the verge
(that feeling you get just before it rains)
I reached up and grabbed your arm
"I love you."

Your eyes were ice,
you turned your back, and slammed
the door.
"I'm not your consolation prize..."
I hated how the bed still smelled like you,
how I second guessed myself,
ignored the truth.

-I took the key out from under the mat
and conveniently lost your number.

The difference is small
but just that:
signifigant.

-Sigh-
I love a good contest prompt:
Not too descriptive
but you get the picture.

I love the way that you fit the prompt into this. It's very beautifully written with lots of emotion. I love the ending stanza. Great write.

  • I love you so much more
    than you dare love me.

i had this over the summer, a guy that was amazing, one i loved, but it was me that got up after our time in bed and would come back the next. Sleep is something intimate to me after sex, and i couldn't let myself, or him fall in love. We were sex, and thats harsh, but it was the truth.
we're over now, and maybe i've got some of my sanity left now.

great write sweets. I totally can relate, obviously. haha.
    love♥.
