Why Always Me?

I tried to do good
by helping another
but what did it do?
my life, it smothered

I never thought or knew,
it never crossed my mind,
that only hurt would come,
though my actions kind

I guess in this world,
in this harsh reality
no matter how we try,
it all ends in cruel brutality

Our words are stripped
from the simple innocence
and our hearts are filled
with pain, at our own expense

  • Very strong, your poems for some reason remind me of John Lennon's lyrics. He was always an agressive writer while Paul McCartney on the other hand was a lovey-dovey writer who, as John said, "wrote silly love songs". Hehe, you're John and Autumn is Paul.

    • hahaha....leave it to you to somehow bring them into the subject.

    Very good write!
    My favorite part was:
"I guess in this world, in this harsh reality, no matter how we try, it all ends in cruel brutality."
I like the emotion put into it! =))

  • what inspired this???

    • alot of things. You know, one of which that happened recently. Aut, I know if you think about it, you'll know...i mean at least one thing.

  • So very thought provoking...I was thinking yesterday how we all go about in our little world never thinking to do a kind thing or say a kind word to a stranger...sometimes all it takes is a smile

  • often i find that the ones who seek and need advice are the very same ones who lest accept it. nice work here makes one think.

  • All too often, our kindnesses are taken for weaknesses, and we are preyed upon. The futile behaviors of some never pay off in the end. You did what you felt compelled to do within the goodness of your heart, as for the adversary; karma will no doubt fairly deal with them. An excellent writ that is chalked with great emotions. I wish you well in the challenge.

    Much Love & Respect ♥

    • Thank you so much for your kind words. And good luck with your contest

  • I am so sorry to read this for it speaks of anguish and sorrow, perhaps simple appearences went wrong or a misplaced word or perhaps even the other side of the conversation did not fully comprehend.

All in all this is a very good and very powerfull yet sentimental piece of poetry.

I like it, I like it so!

    • Thank you so very much. Comments like this encourage me to want to write and post my poetry, so again, thank you.
