300 thousand unfeeling stones,
300 million stone-like stares.
300 thousand unbeating hearts,
300 million hearts broken.
300 thousand remembered men,
300 million men remembering.
300 thousand's blood, 300 million tears
Are shed at Arlington.
Oh can't you feel the air tonight?
The sound of gentle sobs?
The many, many broken souls
That ache and cry and throb?
Can't you see the pain tonight
Of so many soldiers lost?
We may have gained our victory
But 300 thousand was the cost.
If 300 thousand men were lost
How do we say we won?
So many tears, so many fears
Now lay in Arlington.
