We talk in hushed voices,
whispering our love for each-other.
Forbidden love, the kind you see in fairy-tales,
like Romeo and Juliet.
Giggling like little children we move closer together,
your arms secure around my waist.

You were my knight in shining armour,
saving me from the pain of this life.
Before I met you all I saw was darkness,
but your love was like a comet shooting across the sky -
you lit up the darkness and suddenly there was beauty all around.
But then I realised, you were even better than a comet.
You were the sun.
So full of warmth and light, you kept the shadows at bay.

But rather than sharing this, I kept it to myself.
Afraid people wont approve, afraid they would tear you away from me.
Like the moon in an eclipse, they try to put out your fire
and plunge me back into darkness.
If only they could see the way you make me feel,
how I'm not complete unless you're around.

So instead we keep our love a secret.
You're my sweet escape when reality gets too hard,
as you take me to a place that's warm, and safe, and secure,
just like your arms tight around me.
And when everyone else is around,
just a quick touch, or a whispered 'I love you' as you walk past
is enough to keep me going until the next time we can escape
to our own personal heaven, where nothing or no one can touch us
and we can be together once again.
