Love From Above

Neon lights blink among a sea of dark
The alcohol rushes through my worried veins
What new have I in this world to embark?
What else is there to soften my pains?

When on my knees who is there to reach?
When my candid spirit has turned others away
All that’s left of my soul begins to retreat
There comes a time to either die or pray

I see their mouths move but I hear no advice
I feel my candle wither and begin to dull
The world has trapped me in neon lights
In the world I live there is no room for a soul

Beyond the messy realm of artificial lights
I see a light so pure it sobers my mind
And as I look to the sky that star shines so bright
I swear that I’m almost glad to be blind

And as I walk further down a homeless street
I follow that star as it moves slowly above
Suddenly what I feel from my head to my feet
Is a blessing from God that brings me love

Hey mate, it's good to read some of your work again. I have been absent for awhile, but thought I would check in with some old friends now that I am on the site again!
As always you right so succinctly, with such power behind each verse.
The idea of a homeless street is fantastic, I think that is my favourite piece of imagery.
The idea of your veins worrying is so strong, it really sets the mood.
Overall a fantastic poem, it really is refreshing to be reading your work again

    Beautiful.

This reminds me of Matchbox 20 and they're my favorite band. Anyway, I love this poem. It's very pure, and sincere. Great job! Thanks for sharing your emotions and thoughts.

    Love,
