As we lay in romance arms
singing to the world at large
I fall to deeper contemplations…
in our frivolous affairs
as we live within our spheres
have we lost the child’s sleep
that reaches out beyond our reach
past the narcissistic goals
past the hedonistic pits
to touch another human soul?
Could we care for someone’s charge
singing to the world at large
laying light in romance arms?
I ponder thus, I ponder 'we'this nature of society
to mold, to shape it to one's own…
this meaning of superiority
this measure of civility
the willingness, the capacity
to bring a foreign child in
I wonder what we’d offer it
how we’d nurture, influence it
to ease its mind, slow down its pain
from the chaos, make it sane…
In our daily, struggling lives
where we earn, where we must fight
as we lay in romance arms
singing to the world at large
the feeling haunts me there need be more…
the answer always rings out clear
though sadly, comes and then departs-
a mark of a civilization is in its heart…
So we write romantic songs
together as we may belong
the music between two hearts and minds
but a hunger lingers, a deeper goal
to reach out to the human soul…
Summation.
To be read to the music that initiated these thoughts and feelings:

Yes, we love each other,
and we’ve sung it out to the world;
but is that as far as we reach
not to extend beyond our sphere,
not to care for another’s child
if needed…?
A true mark of a civilization
is in its heart…
in its willingness-
and capacity-
to care…
In our daily struggle
we seem to forget
as we earn,
as we must fight
as we love each other
and sing it out to the world…
