Everyone is a mirror
Reflecting judgement on me
Making me feel inadequate
Telling me who I should be
It's called a reflecting self prophecy
And reflects their opinion of me
but I don't think it's fair
I wish I could say I don't care
But what you see in the mirror
Has an effect on the ego
And so it would seem
WHO I KNOW
Makes me
WHO I AM!
.
What did you think

oppinion needs spell cheched. Only one (p) [In my oppinion}
your comments do a good bit on the influences of associates; but one place to re program the mind is in internal dialogue; listen to what you say to yourself in the privacy of the mind... And make an effort to say good things that build.

a good poem, ah yeah, people all around us give us body language, which reflects our own a lot of the time, and we are at ease... and then there are times when we feel uneasy and insecure and people pick up on that without even thinking and reflect it back to the mind. we can only ever be who we are, nothing more, a constant ruffling of emotions.

wow
this was an awsome poem and very true. people do try to tell you who you should be. we are told that who we are should be the same as who everyone else is. how we act look and even speak and your right. its not fair. its not fair to be judged based on societys views of how things should be. whats wrong with being an indevidual? thats what i want to know. well, like i said awsome poem. good job and keep up the great writing. xoxo. -

Thank you - People influence us whether we want them to or not. Our self esteem and self image is partly built on how we perceive others are perceiving us. Like Haiku Kin pointed out, a few messages down we are often wrong. This is why it is best to surround yourself with people who are positive and whose opinion you trust. But - you will always encounter acquaintances, family etc who will still have an effect on your ego - often having a negative effect.
I agree with you, BE AN INDIVIDUAL!! We are all unique and should revel in it. It is easier said than done though. You need a brave ego to start with!

Who we spend our time with has a great influence on who we are and who we become. Right down to the nuances of how we speak.
And indeed, we tend to base our opinion of ourself both on how we perceive others to be, and what they think of us (or, at least, what we THINK they think of us).
And, more often than not, we are wrong. Growing up I never thought myself even kinda pretty. I had good features, but overall I considered myself plain. Not ugly, but not pretty either. In the last year or so, however, I've gotten several compliments on my appearance (mostly my hair, but some just general). The first ones came as a surprise to me. To an extent, they still do. But, on what did I base my opinion of my appearance? Did anyone tell me that I wasn't pretty? Not enough people for me to base my own self-image off of. But I let those few people define who I thought I was (or at least how I looked).
One of the very common problems with human nature, though it can be taken advantage of. If you are able to choose friends that truly build you up instead of tearing you down (or even standing idly by while others tear you down), you stand a much better chance in life, right?
Thanks for writing this. Makes one really think.

I couldn't agree more!
You absolutely must choose your friends wisely! It is so true that our perceptions of what we think people think of us can be so wrong - but it effects our thoughts and behavior all the same. Thank you for your thoughts and observations they are appreciated and I am pleased you liked it enough to comment. Thank you. -
