to our children of today.
How our generation has,
wasted and caused the problems along the way.
Those young people who now watches on,
we owe them an apology for all our wrongs.
So for all the waste and the uncaring actions I must say,
honey I am so sorry but my eyes are open today.
A generation with the way of life
where tomorrow was never seen,
A generation so trashed this country
and have broken the ultimate dream.
A generation now riddled with drugs
are you proud of the direction you so chose,
A generation leaving their children homeless and broke.
I am so very sorry
and I hope within my lifetime,
We can find a way to bring back
love and peace of mind.
Know that our children watching on
will save our country today,
for they have seen first hand
at what has brought us here I would say.
I think we all owe our young an apology,
for now they are left with a weight of the world to bare.
And the adults even today I see unrest
and unwilling to share.
To ask a child what do they think
of how to find our way,
I think they would be shocked
at what our children have to say.
The adults of this country
trying to keep up with the Jones'es today,
have ignored the world about them
and leaving mountains of debt and trash along the way.
We are a spoiled generation
totally out of control,
and its time we ask our children today
for the future is theirs you know.
I am sorry today how the adults have behaved,
I am sorry they see not the children
so hurting along the way.
I am sorry and I myself today
will do my part to set it straight,
by listening to the children of this world
for they will be the ones to set this country straight.
Author notes
Take this weekened and truly listen to your childrens cries how they have been left along the side unheard and so lonesome for their parents have totally ignored them along the way .You know just because you have a roof over your head and groceries this does not make a home its the people who live within only you have left your children there silent and alone . TAKE THE TIME TODAY FOR THEY ARE THE ONES IN THE NEAR FUTURE IN THE LEAD .

As much as I adore metaphor and deep poetry I also like poetry that speaks with simplicity about something complex. Yet again you write of a plight and make no attempt to dress things up but to redress them.
The apology you would like to offer American children is one that perhaps us English should make to our offspring too.
Yesterday in the UK a senior member of the Social Services excused the network failing to protect a 17 month old baby boy from being beaten to death by saying that every day in the UK 30,000 children are at risk, at risk from their parents or carers. What an appalling figure, one child neglected or beaten is one too many but 30,000 a day?
I hear you asking where are the role models for kids and why aren't we all doing enough, I know many parents here have no choice but to give their kids keys and let them fend for themselves as the parents try and hold down two jobs to survive and that is different from not being there because of partying or to earn enough for cosmetic surgery or another vacation but still, as you say, we owe our children an apology and should listen more to their fears and their needs.
You have a huge heart dear poetess.
