When I Remember You
By Charles Marks
TO RKB
When I remember you
I think of the wind
As it blew and drifted us near shore
I think back of the sunny days
You would grill and take me to your fishing hole
When the rainy days came
I remember you pulling out the fishing time
Just to see if we could beat you
When I remember you
I see your image in the water
And your smile when it flows by
I hear your laugh with the morning crows
Which you dearly loved
When I see a beer can
I think back on how much fun you had
When I heard the model A
I remember how excited you got as the engine roared
When I remember you
I think of the birch trees surrounding
Very Strong and easy to be next to
When I remember you
I just don't see my grandfather
But one of my best friends and my fathers
Who stood by me and caught me when I would tumble and fall
Though all great things have to come to an end
They never go away
They live on,
Forever my friend you’ll be in my heart.
