What shall I build to house my faith?
A marble temple with ornate columns
and vaulted ceilings gilded with gold
in tribute to Your great glory?
Shall I build a humble home
with smooth steppingstones that
lead straight to my front door
as I wait for You beside the fire?
Perhaps, faith grows like a garden
in spite of endless drought or raging floods
searing noonday sun or stinging winds
by constant pruning and re-planting
I could climb a mountain to
stand closer to your domain
arms stretched wide as I survey
the beauty of your creation
Or shall I simply continue to pray
as I do on the morning commute
in gratitude for the gift of faith
and the will to perform Your will?

Interesting observations on how we choose to show faith.
Is it easier to build an edifice (a one-time, monumental effort) that will be publicly admired, and then feel one has done all that is necessary for a lifetime? Or to persistently make the daily devotions and sacrifices that grow our relationship with God?
Beautiful second stanza. Love the imagery, particularly "smooth steppingstones that lead straight to my front door as I wait for You beside the fire." This brings to my mind the idea that the stones have been worn smooth by much use, daily traveling to Heaven's gate, and provide a clear path for Heaven's Guest to your fireside.
The garden...some things will survive, others not, under such difficult circumstances as you describe. The need for watchful support and nourishment are hightened in such conditions. I remember hearing, "The best fertilizer is the gardener's shadow."
Nice mountain climb and vista.
Outstanding concluding stanza--what great power is given to help us as we seek to know and do God's will in our daily lives!
