Spontaneous Bus Poetry

Untitled

From the moment we arrive,
Our words are snatched as soon as they escape from our lips
And shoved back down our throats.
Every attempt at adaptation
Is crushed by hot white condescension.
At every moment,
We are bombarded with mockery and derision.
"Go back to where you came from."
You are where I belong.
In a land that wants us deaf, dumb, blind, asleep, and defeated,
Listening and speaking to each other
Are the greatest gifts we can give
We are our last evidence of the existence of love.
I will love you with my lips and ears.
I will never ask you to bleach your speech.
I will never ask you to change
For a country that hates you.

Long Titles, Short Poems [inspired by Bao Phi's series of the same nature]

To that Terminator-Lookin' Motherfucker that Sat Next to Me on the Bus Today.

Wearing 20 pounds of metal in your face
Does not make you an individual or a rebel.
It just makes you look like
A science project.

Author notes

I've taken to writing while sitting on the bus. There will be more poems with long titles to come.

Any feedback at all would be great. Oh, and title suggestions.

    excellent

Short and sweet. Thought provoking. I was born in the West Indies and come from a wide background of ethnic groups. I have come into many prejudices in my life. I am not from the North American Continent and as such, have experienced an odd sense of not "fitting in" with the crowd. After being away from my island home for 40 years, I still feel that I don't fit in, but I do believe in freedom of speech. I don't believe that it is necessary, however, to make someone feel uncomfortable just because they look different or speak different. A bus ride really is a good opportunity to take a look around and get to know all about those who live in your community.
    Keep up the great work.

    Beautifully Penned

This is vividly current on how people, events, and life is today...You captured the city in each line...The tats, peircings they need to make a statement that speaks loud but is saying nothing....loved the raw edge to this poem...an excellent free verse...novy
