An acrylic taste rising

sounds rush into ears

heart in the vicinity of throat

slow scratching on the door

shadows bouncing off walls

silence stretches into forever

hands clenched into fists,

the smell of copper in your nose

death knocks.

  • You capture the taste of fear and anger very well in this. I'm glad it was only for the contest. Well done!

    Well Done

    Catressa,

This is short and sweet and captures the physicality of a moment quite well. I only wonder, in the second to last line, is it supposed to be copper or cooper? I don't know what cooper smells like.

I highly doubt it, Darlin'. I imagine you'd enhance one quite nicely, though, given some of the male comments on your poems I've seen over the years.
