I Don't Need a Man

I don't need a man to tell me I am beautiful
I don't need a man to tell me I am right
I don't need a man to hold me in his arms
I don't need a man to help me see the light

I don't need anyone to kiss me softly on the cheek
I don't need anyone to tell me they understand
I don't need anyone to hold me when I'm scared
I don't need anyone's heart, love, or hand

I don't need your arms around me when I'm lost
I don't need you to whisper it's okay
I don't need your cute little love notes
I don't need you every minute of every day

Tell me then, If I don't need a man
Why do I still want you?

Author notes

I wrote this poem about my ex boyfriend that I broke up with because I thought I didn't want a boyfriend and I wanted to just be single, but now I miss him.

  • Very nice job on this. The bright background was a little blinding but other than that excellent. great job and best of luck in our contest!

  • Because a want is different then a need? if you want a real answer... it's cuz we are mammals, social and it's built in us, to still want that at some time! but i felt this :] and i know i know! overall nice write! lol
