Why is Leonard Cohen Always Right?

If you say you want to kill yourself,
Do it.
Please.
I am of no Consequence,
Nor am I a Cause.
Your sick and rotting mind
Leaves behind
A self-defeating way
Of getting these things
That do nothing.
Your mind is all,
Change it and change the world.

Infinite efforts to hear incessant
Buzzing, needless buzzing.
I bear the stings and bites
For no gain. Nothing
Of my
Own.
Correct me if I'm wrong,
But you work, eat, sleep,
And Shit. So
Smile.

Sadly for you,
I'm getting down from my cross.
Your adamant atheism
Reveals your closet savior.
Maybe if you wish hard enough
You can get paid to drink,
But then there will always be Something
Of which is worthy of suicidal
Manipulation that forces
And does not allow.

Your intoxicated logic
Might be comforting if
It did not give rise to your
Logic.
Logic, logic, logic, logic,
And I'm not emotional?
Not pleading, bleeding, unceasing?
In constant seeking
Of your well being?
But weep to dead angels
That I do not justify
Pathetic howlings
Self-pitying masturbation
Of tears and drugs.

My heart vomits for you,
Turns green and sick and tired.
As if it really needs sustenance
From a green and sick and tired
Friendship. Logic. Emotion.
Drive us away, please drive,
And after going so fast,
So arrogantly fast,
Stop driving and look behind
And cry.

If you say you want to kill yourself,
Do it.
Please.
I am the ultimate Consequence
And I am the ultimate Cause.
