Hindsight

Open fields wide and far
empty but for the grass
The sweetness of Springs blossom
fills my nose
I gaze upon the lonely scene
no one knows what is to come
but I

I see the storm on the horizon
where everyone else sees but blue
For now I marvel at natures wonder
The dampness of the morning dew
caresses me
as the cool wind whisks along

Not a cloud above
But the closeness of the storm is on my mind
The grasses below sway to and fro
almost lovingly as in dance
Perhaps anticipating
what is to come

Where today the sun shines
tomorrow gloom will prevail
Where today peace reigns
and beauty takes hold
on the morrow only sorrow will remain

The field below will drink hearty
the nectar of many young men
and the air will fill with deaths stench
The quiet shall break
amongst the clash of steel
as the storm reaches height
under a perfect blue sky
The thunder of horses
the lightening screams of men
the hail of arrow
the rain of blood…
the perfect storm

But today I stand alone
upon a stolid hill
overlooking natures perfection here
one
last
time
tomorrow they come
for me
for my men
for blood and death
for this there is no glory

I only pity the senselessness of it all
and I feel it
A single tear cuts across my face

I wonder where she is
what shes doing

How dare he send armies for me
when I’ve been defeated at the core

But for this he shall perish
for failure is no option
Time to ready the men
sharpen our edges
fortify our spirits

And a horrid set takes my face
and anger fills me up full
I turn my back on peace
the grasses whisper in the breeze
behind me
asking for mercy
none of which shall I show
for this time he shall see

you reap
what you sew
and the business of war
grips me whole

  • Wow, that was a long piece. I think I was only stopped at one point (you know me sometimes I see a different word or statement where it doesn't lie). It was beautiful, the scenery, and sad to, the ending. Memories......wish there were more happy ones.

    I love you
