Last Thoughts (Kind of a combination of #1,2,3,4)

I am on the coast of Crete
the Mediterranean swallows the horizon,
It is green and blue in the dawn,
and it's waves are singing to me.

The sky is a deep red,
and I am pulled back to my world,
a world of treason,
a world of death.

Was it so horrible what I did?
Do I deserve this? Is it I,
that person so long ago,
carefree and laughing--standing here now?

The block is laid before me
and I think of Syracuse,
my love, my home, my life,
gone forever in the blink of an eye.

I face the dawn and stare for one last moment.
I am brave, and I will keep my eyes open,
for I am a man, a panther, a god!
I will not be afraid of the ax, or what lies beyond!

The dawn is laughing at me!
It will rise and fall for a million years more!
and I will be gone in a moment or two,
and time will wear my bones to dust.

Goodbye, my world,
the true adventure lies ahead,
and I am so very afraid of such adventure,
but calmer than I would have expected.

I can hear the executioners blade
upon me now, and the fear swells,
my eyes sink in the last moment of this life,
and eternity is now mine...

Good.

bye.

I will tell you, I was watching a movie and a man was about to be executed by being beheaded, and I thought "What would go through someone's mind at that moment?" and I applied some history to it, and there you have it. Must be a lonly sad feeling.
