the devil and my father

Choices make the world go round,
they make us have to grow
for those who've already heard this
you only think you know.

I bet you've never been there
to an apartment in the night,
a 5 year old girl scared and torn
who just wants mommy to hold her tight

Mommy left the room again,
the devil wanted to have his way
she knows exactly what he does to you
but she never has anything to say

when you cry and beg he laughs at you
he's too big for a child to beat
and if you cry or struggle too much
he'll just tie down your feet

i bet you've never thought you were safe
becuase they took you away from there
only to be placed with a man who made
the devil seem like he actually cared.

A man that we'll call father,
who didn't handle anger well
he'd beat you short of bloody
and then make you promise not to tell.

I bet you've never been there
when your step mom looked away
because she couldnt look at
what your father had done that day

I bet if you look back on life,
you won't find the horrors
of being kicked and punched
and thrown into closed doors.

So look back on your life now
and think about what you know
the things that you have lived through,
and about where you want to go

and stop with the excuses
about what you never got
because when you really think on it
you really have a lot.
