I feel your breath near my shoulder,
gentle breeze, empty air
Standing near the great Abyss,
turn around and you are there
In my sadness, joy and pain,
sweetest feeling, you are near
Turn around, I see you standing,
holding back all I fear
Where travails, or peaceful journeys,
in moments have arisen
You my Lord have surrounded,
opening doors to my prison
No matter what, no matter how,
I am aware you stand behind me
My guardian, taking care
that I make my choices, free.
I'm not alone, why should I be,
should I ever fear,
I turn to warmth and a father's eyes,
I turn, and you are there.
Thus my heart in days, so numbered,
knows that death awaits
Falls my soul, in repentance,
to my knees, ragged stained
Knowing you have been my keeper,
it is your body that I pained
In my sadness joy and pain,
it is my soul, I must regain
Amid the lightning,
thunderous charge displayed
Your love for me is still conveyed,
turn around and you are there.
