Memories

My mind a jumbled mess,
Overgrown with forgotten pasts,
Too much to try to sort
But still I try my best.

A step onto a sharpened shard,
Hidden beneath the bushes,
Taking away my breath
As memories flood by.

As a river swells beyond, held by
A worn out dam, it still it holds
Until a step further on I come upon
A shadow of a man I used to know.

The carved out features of the stone
Echoing each curve, the simple smile,
The oval eyes but no it musnt be.
With open eyes I begin to see.

This path Im trying to wade through
These sharp memories that do not rest,
This perfect statue staring at me
The ones I dug so deep.

Never will they ever leave, never will they go
I could dig as deep as will might let
Yet still they would be there
Haunting me from within.

So let forth this dam did break
Awill and might did crumble
Leaving behind a broken soul
A haunted, washed out tormented heart.
