They slowly eat away your memory, your life.
At first you don't realize it is even happening.
A few forgetful things here and there.
You make a joke of it as you're getting old.
You even claim your mind is playing tricks on you
As time goes on you get worse
Your daily routine isn't so routine as it was.
Without a choice you withdraw from daily life
You get more confused, more frustrated.
More and more things are being forgotten.
No longer do you know what day it is,
You forget people who are with you daily.
You need around the clock constant care
Your memory gets erased more by this disease.
Medications slow the process for about six months.
As it gets worse, your body shuts down.
This disease is fatal, there is no cure.
Author notes
I wrote this with thoughts of my husband. He has been diagnosed with Dementia 10 years ago. I see the struggles he goes through every day. I see this disease eating away his memory. his life. It is sad because he doesn't realize he is getting worse.

Yes it is sad. I never knew anybody who had this disease but I listen with an open mind to others who are affected by it. I thank you for shedding a little lite on this subject for me. Very well done.
