Through my grandfather's eyes
Old, wrinkled and wise
I see though veiled by happy thoughts
An emptiness, an eternal emptiness
A longing for love
A longing for smiles and warm embraces
A longing for youth
A longing for truth
A longing for memories, happy and sad
A love that never ceases with every fad
A love that no one has ever had
That's my Granddad!
Though his memory sometimes fails
And some of the time he ails
I love my grandfather with all my heart
He really is a work of art!
I will forever cherish the memories I have
As a kid sitting on his lap
Listening to stories he wove like a map
Laughing at every little mishap
Though the language barriers are hard for me
No one on the outside can really see
Cause we have our own language
A secret language of every size
Through my grandfather's eyes
