Common Ground

Somewhere in the middle

soon there must be found,

a place of understanding

a peaceful common ground.

This life is ever fleeting

soon we all must part,

so just live in the present

each day a brand new start.

Let lessons be remembered

the past left behind,

enjoy each precious moment

and live with peace of mind.

Forgive those who have hurt you

for it matters not,

treat everyone with respect

no matter what they've got.

Always lend a helping hand

to those in distress,

and never judge another

or think of them as less.

Never go to bed angry

at the ones you love,

instead just count your blessings

showered from up above.

Say hello to a stranger

greet them with a smile,

spend time with the elderly

make it worth the while.

Spend more time with your children

say I love you so,

tell them you'll always be there

no matter where they go.

This puts us in the middle

peaceful common ground,

with heightened understanding

mundane becomes profound.

Such a beautiful message of selfless good will peace and harmony. Your rhyme and flow as excelent. Thank you for entering the contest.

I'm doing something a little different in this contest. I thought it would be a cool idea after a poem is posted to give each poet the link to the poem that their prompt came from, so here's your's. I just thought everyone would get a kick out of it. You don't have to click on the link and if you do you don't have to comment either. I just thought you would like to see the entire work.

  • Good work here. I really like your thoughts on life. It would be a better place if all people felt this way.

A beautiful way to let everyone know that each life is yours to lead and that wasting time on hate and jealousy among other things is worthless. I like how you present that we can't control how others do us, only how we do to others. Great advice flows through out.

Your poem flows smoothly from Bluesman's stanza; I didn't realise this was his contest and thought they were all your verses.

Profound wisdom, simple truths yet not understood by many.

    Peace Georgia
