gulls hovered so near
I could see their eyes
black beads in puffs of white
and I see as if through their eyes
the gray water is my heart
reflecting a low hang of sky
where thick clouds hold more drops
waiting to come home
and I am a world of invisible souls
each day I had owned now owns me
never to be free, nor wanting it
I stand, my body as lands,
breath as winds to look beyond the air over my eyes
held in the glow of love,
I have been warmed
by a greater sun

Wonderful poem this is, PK and such a great interpretation of the contest prompt. I really like the way you've carried the metaphor through from start to finish - something not everybody is capable of doing! This is indeed a poem with wings and those last two lines are pure magic. Really loved this one - beautiful poetry! Thank you for posting it in my contest.

each day I had owned now owns me
never to be free"

From the gray water to the greater sun, you hold this piece aloft in pensive grace, Poet. Good luck in Nic's contest.

you are simply amazing. Your endings are always so bang on. "I have been warmed
by a greater sun"
is breathtaking.
