Blurred Lines

I wake up to the reality of my dreams
To find you woven in every moment, it seems.
Life goes on... simple, sedate;
I seem content enough with my fate.

I wake up to the reality of my reality
To find your presence, now mere anonymity.
Life carries on... simple, sedate;
I've come to terms with my fate.

Then there are days when the lines seem to blur.
Are you my dream or my reality, I cannot know for sure.
Life inches along... simple, sedate;
I wonder if I wandered into someone else's fate.

Author notes

Option 1: Poem about emptiness. I initially wrote this one in a parking lot as I was waiting for a couple of friends for lunch. Both of these friends had lost immediate loved ones in sudden tragic ways this past year and the loss is still really raw in their lives. During that same week, I was also having very realistic recurrent dreams about a person I know and each time I woke up, I would almost stop to wonder which part of my life was dream and which part was reality. I guess losing loved ones (whether they are dead or alive) can sometimes leave us empty to the point of blurring the lines between dream and reality. This poem is a result of that week.

    Wow!!! A master-piece!!! Love the last line. Captures the feeling of being lost and hopeless eloquently. A great write. And well, I'm the first person to comment, so I would definitely have to give you an applause for this write. Bravo!!! Keep this passion of words going.
