I greet my friends and put in a couple bucks in the offering basket
I raise my hands during the worship songs and listen to the pastor
During confession I go forward and confess my sins that weigh me down
I help out when it's my turn to take care of the children
I go to Youth Group like a good girl and try to respect my parents
I sin where nobody can see it
I curse where nobody can hear it
I believe in Jesus, I know there's one way
But sometimes I continue to live in sin without regretting or apologizing
Sometimes I live to rebel
I know Jesus was a child
Yeah, yeah, tender and mild
I know he grew up perfect
Died for my sins
Sins on his back
Nails in his hands
Crown on his head
Tortured till dead
But sometimes I wonder..
How does that affect me?
A death two thousand years ago
And then I convince myself to believe
Of course it happened for me
The Son of God condemned to die
For my sin, for my pride
Of course, of course, shush evil thoughts
Is it just enough to know you're loved?
Is it enough to just believe?
Is it enough to believe and not live for God?
Can I still live in sin but get to heaven?
Can I just confess some of my sins?
Is it enough to live for God just some days?
Is it enough to go to church on Sundays?
Pray at dinner?
Remember God on Christmas?
Read the bible only when you feel discouraged?
Cry for help when you're drowning?
Shrug him off when you're on cloud nine?
Is it enough to celebrate Easter for candy?
Look up at the stars and know God created them?
Lose the awe after a couple of days?
Be on a spiritual high during a retreat?
Lose it after five days?
Go back to living in sin?
Memorize a bible verse
Break five commandments
Do a good act
Sin 10 fold
Praise God
Go and curse his name
Every bad outweighs the bad
Soon you're left with nothing but a bible in one hand
And overwhelming sin in the other
My mind is torn in two
The Devil, the son of the earth
Jesus, the Savior of the sinful
Angel, demon, angel, demon, angel demon
On my shoulders whispering different things
It is enough!
No, it isn't
My grace is sufficient!
You're too sinful, why would God love you?
My Grace is sufficient, my love is enough, I closed the gap
Why would God love you? Why? Why? Why? Why?
I close my eyes and cry
The Devil is smiling, the angel comforts
My grace is sufficient, my yolk is light, you can lose grip but I'll hold on tight
The Devil intervenes, he wants my soul to crush
Look at your clothes, they're filthy
Look at your sins, they're for the world to see
Why would God love you? Why? He killed Jezebel with dogs, he punished the Israelites for complaining, he struck the gossipers down with plagues, the murders with death, the unbelievers with hell, the evil with a flood, what makes you any better?
The Angel looks me in the eye, sees the pain inside
Sees my discouragement and anguish
And tells me..
Jenny Rose, do not fear
I know you think God is far, but he's right here
His heart is breaking when you stray
Look at the cross, close your eyes
Imagine your sins on his back
Imagine you as a mocker, whipping his side
Now look at his dead body
Carry him to the grave
That's good, set him there
Now with help, close the stone
Go on with your day, actually three
Walk past the grave, for no reason in particular
See the stone rolled away, you're so confused
Walk along the path, see people in the way
They act as nothing is wrong, they continue with their day
You see a man, with a friendly face
Go towards him and ask, Where is he? What happened?
He looks at you, you see the closed wounds on his face
Recognize him from the tree
Almost faint, he grasps your arms
Pulls you up, and says to you
You helped kill me
Look at the nails in my hands
Feel the spear would in my side
That was you
I saw your face in the crowd
Your voice screaming loud
I knew your name
I created you
But you killed me
Do you believe?
Do you believe?
Do you believe in what you see?
Do you believe I save?
Do you believe I raised from the Dead?
I can cure you from your ailments
I can cure you from hurt
Do you believe?
Do you believe?
Yes.. I believe
Your faith has set you free
I know you have regrets
I know you have sin struggles
But as long as you know that I'm the one
I'm who I say I am
It's enough

Really good poem but I am going to have to say that I am going to have to DQ it. It broke one of the rules sorry. I do not want poems that other trophies only gold or silver. Sorry. I really like your poem though. You did a great job on it though
. Love and Peace!

So much you question, been through, though sins are many, He is great, and no greater love, knowing He loves you. Excellent. Blessings.
-
Thank you for entering the contest. I will try to comment after the judging.

God is Love, Jenny. It's truly an amazing thing to behold from human perception, and to know such power is here for the expressing, joy, and unfolding is truly a gift. I've thought often about the agony Jesus endured for our sake and have wandered away, too, but also came back for the blessing, knowing I am unworthy. We have our being in him, and take it for granted most of the time, or blindly.
That you wrote this touches me deeply, too, because, like me, you are seeing and coming to understand the immensity of such love. I'm so glad I read this.

-
When Christ died on the cross for our sins, he died for our past, present, and future sins! It's not about our works or what we have to do, it's what He did on the cross. That's a relief isn't it? That's the good news!

I love your poem because we all wrestle with these thoughts of doubt.
The last stanza is great because you come full circle by stating that it's "faith" that sets us free.
Amen!

-
That was very long and really good heh. Remember w? God he could care less if you go out there and act like Paul all he cares about is that 1) God is the father of Jesus and he created the Heavens and the Earth. 2)Jesus Crist was crucified and hung on a cross for our sins. 3) Jesus rose from the grave on the 3RD day. The one thing about this poem that is NOT true is this section: I sin where nobody can see it
I curse where nobody can hear it
I believe in Jesus, I know there's one way
But sometimes I continue to live in sin without regretting or apologizing
Sometimes I live to rebel. Remember everybody sins and tends to rebel against Jesus...BUT true believers/followers ask for forgiveness frequently. Good luck in the contest
-
-
We all make mistakes. Christians aren't perfect and sometimes it's hard to ask for forgiveness.

Wow! 14!!!! This is really very good! I feel like this reads and flows just like a song! Have you ever thought of songwriting? I think you have a natural gift! Excellent! So many very deep thoughts, and you've managed to keep the interest and fun in a deep subject! Well done indeed...you really got me thinking.
Thank you for the entry! Best in the contest!

"Jenny Rose, do not fear
I know you think God is far, but he's right here"
I do not know what to say Jenny. This is amazing. Everyone of us has doubts at time. Where we think he has forsaken us. I had many in my lifetime. Someone said something to me the other day that was hard to hear, but made perfect sense
"Man spends a lifetime trying to forget what God can not remember"
I wish I could have known God was right here all those years. Beautiful Job.
-
You have gone over the limit of 100 lines.
-
Great job.
I love this poem, I love the reflection of my own thoughts in it. I think you have put the thoughts of many to task here. I like the content, timing and style of this. I look forward to reading more of your work when I finish judging. Thank you for entering.

Thought-Provoking
This really made me think and ponder. I love the complex reality in it. not only the questioning of oneself and others but the questioning of the religion that is protrayed. This is very thought-provoking. Thank you very much for entering the contest. Best of luck. -
This is absolutely amazing! I loved this because if all Christians are honest, really honest, than I think they would have to admit that some portions of your write have gone through their heads at some point in their lifetime, either at an early stage when they first came to know Christ or perhaps right before they accepted Christ, maybe even long after becoming a Christian, but I doubt you would find a single Christian who was completely honest who could forthrightly say that they cannot relate to at least one section of this write. What would interest me though is how many non-Christian readers are taking the time to read this and shaking their heads saying "exactly" and then closing it out and not even taking a second thought to it. I would have loved to have seen some biblical verses in your author notes to have backed this write up for those who have not yet made that step who actually took the time to get to the last line of this read. Poetry can be a very powerful tool in life and this is a powerful read dear. You have written something that could have the potential of helping someone who is sitting on that all too familar fence in life fall one way or the other. Why not use that advantage? You obviously have evangalistic skills, and evidently some knowledge of the bible... so put it to good use. Add a verse or two in your author notes to back up what this poem says. Maybe John 3:16 would surfice.
Anyway, I am so pleased to have read this and I can see that you have already taken some trophies for this one and I assume you will most likely take a few more before you retire it. I hope you will write more spiritual poetry as you certainly have the talent for getting the Word out there.
Best of luck in those contest dear.

This is absolutely beautiful I love the debate the struggle of faith you have written about, so true I can relate, how hard it is and how long (sometimes years) to come to your last line and the conclusion of you poem. Jesus has set you free from this debate of I sin too much to be love3d and forgiven this is main reason to have come on earth because of our weaknesses, if you beleive and repent if you try you are and will be forgiven. In judaism there are so many rituals to try to balance the good with the bad (islam is the same) but Christ has set people free from this accountancy of debit credit (wich does not mean we have to sit down and do nothing) this is the most amazing gift allowing us to connect with God again with truthfulness and spontaneity and because we choose to not because we have to. Thank you for this wonderful and uplifting entry.
God bless.

-
Lovely!
I see the Faith in you through this poem.
Bad thoughts and ways are always lurking, but with Faith you can be set free.
Great write!

-
Awesomely intense and brutally honest....wow
You penned this PERFECTLY; I don't know what else I could say!
A fine sharing!!!
All the best to you!
-
Wow, I love to see a teen like you write this, my AP daughter I see. You were honest and to describe that run in with Jesus, seeing Him hanging there. Keep writing dear one, keep searching your heart. Well done. Blessings.

-
This is quite a piece that you have submitted, and I am happy to see and read all faith-promoting poems, but this is obviously not what the contest called for this time.
But keep expressing your faith and trust in God and the fulness of His blessings, and of His grace which is enough. There are many out there that need to hear of God's goodness and grace in a way that it will touch their heart and move them closer to our Savior and Lord.
Have a Blessed Day!

For the purposes of the Massman contest this just doesn't fit -- it doesn't rhyme. Sticking your poem into loads of contests seems to me to be somewhat thoughtless or, at least, not thought through. I think this is particularly important where a poem of religious content is being offered.
-
-
I want to scream Jesus's name to all the world.
-
-
As I suggested, thoughtless or, at least, not thought through.
-
-
Oh, I thought it through.

Thanks for your criticism.

Great poem about a really a close encounter with Jesus. We all struggle with sin and the desire to go our own way. He says "My grace is sufficient."
And it is.

-
Faith is always enought poet..
Congrats on the Silver in this contest.

-
I can't say I agree with the sentiment, or that I was a fan of the endless dogma and rambling, but I did want to say that you should probably punctuate a little more and/or break this up into more readable.

Good luck in all those contests! -
When I got into noticing that it was about God, it kind of turned me away from the poem. I'm not into religious poetry. However, you pulled this off very nicely. What a frenzy of emotions, such words of wisdom! I've recently grown out of my relationship with Him but this made me feel so... amazing. Great write and good luck in the contest.

Nice
hey now this is a very long poem when i read this your honesty with your self and the way you view christ and the world is very well put i must admit it is very breath taking ao my verdict is that i see nothing in error it shows alot of love well done. -
This is a very honest write about the humanness of us all not one of us is ever perfect yet many try to convince us we are bad just for being weak...it is not the phyiscal that we should worry about it is what is deep in our heart and love wants to come and stay if we let him...an excellent sad write dear poet good luck in the competition

-
wow.
very breath takeing it is, i love it, lots of action from time and then, yet they are true, i love the way you mix rhyme and free verse, good luck in the contest -
wow!
Jenny Rose, that was amazing! -
I don't believe in god, at all. But this is was quite a good piece. It shows your struggle very well, even though it doesn't use a ton of specific imagery and huge adjectives. It shows the struggle of faith, which is very, very well done here.
-
wow.
wow.
I can relate to this, word for word. I'm a new Christian, And I struggle to live in the Glory of God every min of every day. I fall into sin way to easily and then run to the Lord for forgiveness, hoping he will still love me. I think it is amazing how you have managed to put this into words! keep up with the good poetry and I hope to read more of your work!
God Bless,
Susan

I know too well every line you spoke in this poem, thoughts I've spent some time on, but not enough. I don't know what to say other than what you already have!
"Soon you're left with nothing but a bible in one hand/ And overwhelming sin in the other"
I like that metaphore.
I also liked the war you narrated between good and evil. Great job! -
wonderful. it is a heartfelt poem. thanks for sharing and thanks for the inspiration..

-
This is amazing. It was a mesmerizing retelling of the passion of Christ as if you were there. I was really moved by it. I feel that it was my fault too. We have all sinned. We just have to trey every day to live as Jesus did.

-
great job I liked it very much but please put your real name in the AN
-
wonderful. I'm sure lots of people think this way. it's very powerful. very good poem.

-
You're such a beautiful writer.
The words, the rythem, just everything.
This is an amazing poem.
Well done
♥

-
cool
hey ..i love your poems

-
Wow
The title capture my attention, a very interesting piece, good flow, emotional, thanks for sharing

-
Wow this is so great.
-
Wow. Just wow.
I've tried to be a Christian. I've failed. I've stumbled, I've fallen, I've crawled on hands and knees. I know I can be a good person, but I know I'm a monster inside too. But reading this poem...it brought tears to my eyes. It's amazing. Why use rhyme and prose when the flow is so..natural? I can feel the chaos in your words like they're my own warring thoughts, like it's ME thinking these things, not just reading them. You're amazing.

-
Excellent
you have deep perception fo one of your age, you have not yet reached the age of accountability, your sins are nothing compaired to what you will face as an adult. If I changed this poem I would make it rhymn or use prose to tie it together.

-
A brave poem, totally in keeping with the bravery of the poet. Profoundly realized.

-
AMAZING!!!!
This is utterly amazing Jenny...I loved it the way you point out the battle along with the victory...and yes it is enough!!!! And it is all we need if we accept it and transform ourselves from the early thing unto the heavenly things...the battle has been won already and we just have to choose which side, the victorious or the defeated....Thanks for sharing this amazing write with me today!!!!~~~Toni~~~

-
Thesis and antithesis;
every sin had its corresponding act of repentance. This is a moral debate that I used to fight. Until I found my answer. Keep searcing, the way will find you. Great writing.
Best of luck and thanks for entering! -
I really like this. Its so powerful and intense on so many levels... I think everyone has moments when they switch back and forth like that. Especially being young and trying to live a Christian life is extremely difficult. I would know... Im pretty sure Im failing at it right now. This poem is so amazing though. I really really do like this alot. God bless you.

-
excellent
You are an amazing girl Jenny Rose!! This ia so beautiful, I don't have words to express!! God is using you dear. Keep the faith!!

-
Okkkkay!
You really are an awesome Christian.. This is The storm that we all have to go through.. like a heavy rain, you know? But keep reading the Bible, just like you would Read a Book during a rain storm, and wait for the rain to Pass...and when the rainstorm stops inside of you, everything Is cleaner, brighter, warmer, and fifty times more wonderfull... you swell with Joy. Everything spritual in you Grows.. Satan knows you're effective, so he's trying to keep you down. But you know better than that.
Keep yo Head up!

-
that was quite the struggle that went on up there. One that I recognize quite closely.
Take heart Jenny. . . God is near.
air hug. -
A Hearts Song.
Very pure mis Jenny. This a walk along threw your own heart and I am proud to read it. I am honored to have found it.
Rember Mis Jenny, If you believe in something you are ready to learn, If you know something you are ready to teach.
You are well one you way to teaching great things, I look forward to see where your life leads you Dear.

-
Wow. That was amazing. Very powerful.

-
Oh, my gosh...this is like the most powerful poem/song. You, my dear, would preach a great sermon! This is beautiful! Keep up that great work!!!!

-
Wow. Truly powerful. I had a shiver running down my spine that had nothing to do with the fan in the room. That perfectly describes the doubt everyone undergoes, and a beautiful way of overcoming it. Wonderful imagery and amazingly written. Great job, Jenny, I loved it.

-
Amen
This is a write of perfection and the faith shown within the writer indeed. The sins you do not speak of he already knows for he sees through your eyes over all upon this earth . Your beliefe and the growth of this beliefe through time shall set you free.

-
A battle I've fought, lost, and won. We may fight with ourselves, but in the end, all we have is what we believe. Don't let discouraging events kill your belief, otherwise, you will lose. Stay strong, and know that your beliefs are the right ones, if you believe in them.
-
words can not express what i think of this.... astounding, wonderful..... these words to little to explain what i feel... you have an amazing talent. keep upp the fantastic work :-)

-
Wow Jenny
This is like a stage play. How dramatic! Good for you!
Sunday before last we had a sermon in our church on this very theme.
# Romans 8:1
"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."
It IS enough. It is finished.
Excellent message!

Paul

-
Pure greatness
This is the best poem I have ever read!!! Thank you for this reminder!!!!

-
