falling from stars [but by the time you catch me, it'll be too late]

Another Tuesday night,
and I’m still sick of wishing on these decimated stars and praying to broken gods, tired of waiting while you "sort things out." remembering the way you used to mock the silvery smears left by the graphite of my schoolgirl desires, splayed out on my face like the blushing in my cheeks when you traced your perfect fingers over my wrist
[maybe when I grow up I’ll write my love story with something more permanent;; but penciled poems can still poison when they get into your b l o o d s t r e a m]

baby, I'm not as innocent as I seem,, it's just that the sapphire curses of your eyes could always make me do anything,, I’d tie you to a stake and burn you for an enchanter if I wasn’t already your slave, on my knees scrubbing the dirt from the tearstained tiles until I can see the reflected heavens (but you’re so far away). I always said you were too good for me.

Things always reverse and spin when I look into your demon gaze, and sometimes it seems like I’m flying [but I always end up falling] until I’m the one in the sky looking back and I’m one of a thousand desperate souls shining like needletips (and so insignificant), there are a thousand galaxies that would die to have you and I’m just the nearest star [but I’m still too far]. I never know what to say and sometimes it feels like no matter what secrets my lips give up, you’re never really there.

[The gods are too busy, call back soon]

One more night, I’m crying, far from reality and feeling a thousand miles away, watching Earth from somewhere where nobody cares. It’s dark out here and you never answer when I call your name. And then the nightmare [where I’m alone] flashes back and I’m falling again. I need you, but by the time you look up it’s too late.

Did you know baby, it would take 4.2 lightyears to freefall into someone’s arms  on Earth from the nearest star?

So by the time you catch me, I just might be gone.  ♥

Author notes

This is option 2a. "it would take 4.2 light years to freefall into someone arms on earth from the nearest star."
