Tied in Nots.

Constrained by the things we are not.

Not happy.
Not okay.
Not fine.

In nots.
In need.

Author notes

I wrote this with my mediation assignment in mind, inspired by one of the classes on the emotions a mediator should be aware of while mediating a dispute.

  • I adore the clever wordplay, and the deeper implications of not vs knots.
Provides more facets to interpert the work, although that makes it hard for me to pick a favorite interpertation.
    The first line,
"Constrained by the things we are not"
is the most reflective of these double meanings...to be tied down, physically, by the "nots" of soicety. Really gets you to thinking to the derivations of words and the fibers that connect the meanings.
I also liked the conciseness of the poem. A bit shorter and less abstract than your normal work, the compression works here.
It allows the reader to elaborate.
