La Manche is french for the English Channel,
that large body of water that happens to divide
England and France. Think, metaphors
The "slurred words" stand for differences in languages/accents that make it difficult for us to understand eachother, yet another metaphor!

Yep, I get the metaphors I assume. Who is the guy? I'm nosy.
Well Donne was saying we all share a similar humanity, the same essential qualities, but yeah it's hard to feel that when we have been hurt or if we don't understand where another is coming from. I've tried to swim the English channel before...I've drowned every time...I hope you and France are better swimmers.

Why do I understand that? I've spent most of my life at odds with the general population. Always been sort of a cave dweller.
Now I understand your use of the Donne line better. People are great when they don't have time to think. Their best natures come out...but when we have time to deliberate...that's when we see the failings.
Or so I think.
