like hoarfrost, your words
evaporate
in the air; the silence is left empty
& gaping
with the shape of hope.
& lies. we must not forget
the lies, spun silk, glass,
a tapestry woven of mica.
I am a crow.
hoarding your words
like a palace of fantasies, a nest
built of tin-foil & empty wrappers.
used.
is it enough
to take a fragile paradise
into your heart, embrace it,
make it strong – is it enough
to charm music from the Thames,
coax poppies
from the derelict concrete fields
of this city? They, like you, are barren –
there is water enough, & light, but perhaps
some soil is just too permeated
to give.
