Bobbin' for Apples of Clay

Missing image

Sung to the tune of “Home, Home on the Range”
(provided for your reading enjoyment
just right-click and open in a new window)…

When twilight birds sing, and the stars do their thing
there’s a spirit of rip-roarin’ fun
that takes hold of four men, four extremely old men,
who by trade stare out into the sun…

Four grumpy old men,
though enshrined, are in fact quite deranged;
when no one’s come ‘round, then they all turn around
and go bobbing for apples of clay.

Oh give me a home where the tourist bus roams
and I’ll carve you a national gem;
by day they’ll behave in their usual way
then by night become grumpy old men.

Home in the black, hilly range,
where they stare at the sun all the day;
when evening comes down
these four warriors are found
ends up, bobbing for apples of clay.

ends up, bobbing for apples of clay.

    Oh very nicely done WB, damn I had to downshift a few gears to slow down to the pace of the music, but this was a wonderful piece of work.. Thanks for entering and best of luck... Scott

      yes, most of us would have to downshift MANY gears for this one...

  • lmao.... I clicked the link straight off... and it was a real challenge to only read the words as they came up in the song, but I managed it. Genius here, man. What a great thing to see in the eye of my mind. The lighting was excellent, set up by that twangy and thoughtful rendition of the song.

      thanks for that psychologically revealing response- I did not consider how difficult it would be to slow the reading mind down that much- we are so used to racing through a piece... there are ways of slowing the mind's pace down, of course, but I see that I did not employ them here... and glad you tried it with the music...!
