In her furtherest reaches
there might be apple warm days
where green is gracious in its growing
but here, in the winter of her heart,
is a longing for the North
I have seen planes scribe words in the sky
In my dream, half-frozen and chipping away,
there is an “I almost forgot you” trailing
behind in spring’s vapor,
pulling with it
a security blanket
full of blossoms and birds and summer things
I am done with dapple days, languishing
in your shade that obliterates sharp focus
Winter is the state of heart.
